Inconsistency Costs the Chevrons against Afghanistan

The Chevrons lost by six wickets to Afghanistan as they were bowled out for 154 and slumped 1-2 in their 5 match ODI series against Afghanistan. 

Zimbabwe got off to a bad start as they lost Hamilton Masakadza, Brendan Taylor and Solomon Mire all for 44 bringing the Chevrons to 44-3 in the 7th over. Sikandar Raza and Craig Ervine stabilised the fall of wickets for a while as they took the Chevrons to 117 but by then Rashid Khan had already done the damage to the team losing their last 6 wickets for just 29 runs. 

The Chevrons could only get to 154 all out which turned out to be a small task for Afghanistan to reach in just 27.3 overs. The collapse of the lower end batting line up just once again piles on the pressure to guys like Malcolm Waller and Ryan Burl to prove their worth in the team. This will definitely increase the calls of Cephas Zhuwawo in the team to either replace Ryan Burl or Malcolm waller who haven’t been performing of late. 

Kyle Jarvis was missing from action on the bowling side as Tendai Chatara and Blessing Muzarabani were leading the seam attack. Brian Vitori is also still to get into form as he only bowled two overs being hit for 14 runs. Cremer led the spin attack on the other hand and he grabbed a wicket from his 9 overs. 

The inconsistency of the Chevrons is rather worrying as they have been swinging back and forth in this series. After having lost the first match by 154 runs, the Chevrons went on to win the 2nd ODI by the same margin with Brandan Taylor showing signs of eventually getting into form after his return with a century in the match. The only consistent performances have been coming from Craig Ervine and Sikandar Raza. It is all to play for in the 4th ODI which will be played this Friday at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. All hopes are set on Brendan Taylor to find his form again and also Kyle Jarvis to bolster the seam attack
