Warriors Thump Swaziland in AFCON Qualifier

Image
By Perkins Bare After holding Sihlangu to a 1-1 draw at home, the Warriors capped off the back to back encounters by returning for the second leg a different side as by the end of 90 minutes Swaziland had no idea what had hit them having been hit for 4 to the good. In an African Cup of Nations Qualifiers played out at the National Sports Stadium, the Warriors put themselves up in a strong position to qualify on top of Group L as they beat Swaziland 4-0. With the first leg having been pitted for Swaziland on Friday with the return leg back in Harare on Monday, the two matches were going to be feisty as Zimbabwe sat joint leaders in their table together with Swaziland on 4 points. If one thing was certain was that the better team between the two was going to break away from the group and set themselves up for a strong contention for a birth at the Afcon 2017 finals to be played in Gabon. Cautious Approach Warriors coach went into the first leg with a cautious approach but this almost

Warriors Gear-Up to Face Swaziland

Image
By Perkins Bare This scene would bring up nightmares for Khama Billiat as he had to be consoled by his current team manager after the Angolan nightmare which left the nation heartbroken and myself well, rather speechless but shouting all sorts of obscenities in the rain. But with the lad in the form of his life as he is currently the top-goal scorer for his club in a deadly attack trio that has been named CBD out at Mamelodi Sundowns. All the wrongs on that fateful afternoon are certainly going to be set right as the upcoming encounters over the easter holidays might just keave us witgh a foot in the Afcon 2017 finals. After a rather tense few weeks which had been dogged by allegationas of match-fixing, the Warriors will go on to face Swaziland in two back to back encounters over the Easter holidays with the first being played on Easter Friday with the returen leg slated for Monday at the National Sports Stadium. With Swaziland being seeemigly offended by being

Can it Possibly Get Any Worse At Zimbabwe Cricket?

Image
By Perkins-Tino Bare Surely it takes a great level of skill to make a World Cup winning coach look ordinary and Zimbabwe Cricket has done exactly that. The silence over what was an embarrassing early exit by the Chevrons as they failed to qualify for the World Cup T20 currently underway in India signals a loss of hope for the Zimbabwean National cricket team. With the ICC now placing more emphasis on the development of the game itself over soothing the battered egos of its members, the World Cup might just be long and gone for the cricket fans.   The Chevrons never really had it in their qualifiers and even when our media was rejoicing that the Chevrons had won it still wasn`t enough,. The stats spoke for themselves as they had to grind results winning by 11 and 14 runs that is after having being pitted in a rather easy group which had Afghanistan, Scotland and Hong Kong. Afghanistan eventually knocked out the Chevrons but even this is slowly becoming a regular sight as we lost to th

Chevrons in Disheartening Loss

Image
By Perkins-Tino Bare The Zimbabwe Cricket team the Chevrons were bundled at the Qualifying stages of the World Cup T20 by Afghanistan as they lost to them by a whopping 59 runs. Afghanistan batted first and they set the Chevrons a target of 187 which was not going to be an easy task for the guys who had gotten used to posting 120 odd runs for T20. Afghanistan, an associate nation secured their third successive appearance at the expense of the Chevrons after Mohammed Nabi starred for the Afghans with a half century. Shahzad chipped in with 40 runs whilst Shenwari had 43 runs which added to Afghanistan`s total. Panyangara was the pick of the bowlers on the Chevrons` side as he had 3 wickets byut they came expensively. Chatara and Donald Tiripano were the most expensive of our bowlers as they had figures of 0-34 and 1-41 respectively. The Chevrons innings never really took off with Panyangara being the highest on a pathetic batting list with a mere 17 runs. All of our first 4 batsmen co

Chevrons Off To a Winning Start

Image
By Perkins-Tino Bare The Chevrons got off to a winning start in their qualifying campaign for the T20 World Cup as they beat Hong Kong by 14 runs in a match played out in Nagpur India. After losing the toss, the Chevrons batted first and they set Hong Kong a target of 158 but they could only manage to post 144 as the Chevrons and Afghanistan drew first blood in their qualifying group which also contains Scotland. The Chevrons lost the toss and had to settle for batting first in a match that they were expected to win. Hamilton Masakadza opened the batting with Vusi Sibanda whilst Richmond Mutumbami was on cue as the 3 rd batsman which looks like pretty much the order of things for the Chevrons in terms of T20 cricket. Masakadza was the first to lose his wicket after having posted 20 runs on the board. His coun terpart Vusi Sibanda was the better of the pair as he had a final score of 59 hitting 5 fours and 2 sixes in the process. It was a goo day for Vusi as it

Castle Lager Premier Soccer League Fixtures Released

Image
By Perkins-Tino Bare The PSL this week released the fixtures for the upcoming 2016 league programme which is set to kick off the first week of April. The fixtures will see the champions Chicken Inn starting their title defense against Dynamos at home in Bublawayo. The much awaited battle of Zimbabwe pitting Dynamos against Highlanders is set for matchday 8 whilst the Harare Derby of the former against Caps United is set for matchday 4. There was an growing sense of anxiety as fans wanted information as to when the PSL was going to release the fixtures for the upcoming league season. The PSL had specified that the league was going to start late after deliberations with Zifa which saw March being congested as the Warriors are going top face Swaziland in back to back encounters over Easter in their Afcon Qualifiers. Apart from that there is also the ZNA Charity Shield which is still in its semi-finals and still needs to be wrapped up before the league commences. Cl
