Zimbabwe in a `Raising Hope` Loss

Image
By Perkins-Tino Bare Zimbabwe showed great courage in their opening World Cup encounter in Hamilton at Seddon Park as they went down rather harshly to their neighbours and bitter rivals in one of the biggest rivals in World Cricket by a mere 62 runs in a voraciously contested match which forced the Proteas to turn to their middle order batsmen for runs escaping with death rather pistoriously. In what was a tightly contested match and the skipper Elton Chigumbura selected to field and with the short boundaries, we were already expecting big scores in the match. In what was already dubbed the Battle of Africa, South Africa sent in Hashim Amla and Quinton De Cock to start up their quite long batting line-up. De Cock was to depart in the third over after he was caught off by Craig Ervine from a Chatara ball for a meager 11 runs which was to become the order of the day for the top order batsmen for South Africa. With the Proteas at 10/1 Faf Du Plessis walked to the crease a

Zimbabwe to Retreat? Hell We Just Got Here!

Perkins-Tino Bare When advised to retreat to withdraw by a French officer at the defensive line just north of the village of Lucy-Bocage on June 1, 1918, Captain Williams is said to have said “Retreat? Hell, we just got here!” Zimbabwe Cricket is going to the World Cup to be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand. With the tourney less than a month away, our new experienced coach DAV Whatmore has set his sights on progressing to the Super 8. This will definitely not be easy, but it`s something well achievable and well in sight.    Zimbabwe crushed out during the first round last time in India after we only managed to beat minnows Canada and Kenya and to most disgruntled fans this is just one of those overzealous ambitions which they can only but blame themselves for believing but this time round most will certainly scatter for safety, mainly of their trust, avoiding its cruel betrayal which quite frankly has become a custom popularized by the phrase so near yet so far. Now the s

Make Us Proud Boys, Make Us Proud!

Make Us Proud Boys, Make Us Proud! Perkins-Tino Bare `Congratulations to all those chosen to represent Zimbabwe at the forthcoming World Cup` read the words by David Coltart and all around the suspense which had killed us all was finally broken but just like that moment the question then became are can we pin our hopes on these guys? `When will they ever learn? was the question by Dean Du Plessis. Zimbabwe cricket on Wednesday announced their 15 men squad for the upcoming World Cup to be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand with morale at an all-time low with the sour, shitty taste of the Bangladesh debacle still in the mouths of many. The team will be hugely depending on the batting of Sikander Raza who looks set to be an opener but with the exclusion of Sibanda the big question is who will partner him and even if he opens who will then become our 3 rd batsmen since Taylor is currently on a bad run of form. One thing we cannot run away from is that our squad is limited

AB Goes Villainy On Windies

Image
Perkins-Tino Bare I have never been a Proteas fan and I will most likely never be one but the quality of cricket on display yesterday, especially from the man of the moment AB De Villiers, left most of us in awe gazing as the Proteas adopted a ruthless type of play in their lukewarm series against the West Indies who have since failed to be competitive. It was a records galore at the Bidvest Wanderers as AB de Villiers stole the show going all guns blazing as he sailed his way to a ton from just 31 deliveries with the major highlight being 16 sixes. With the previous world record being held by Corey Anderson whom it took 36 deliveries to get to a 100, yesterday it took De Villiers almost an over less to break it as he thundered his way to an unbelievable 149 off just 49 balls with nine fours and a magnificent 16 Sixes. It took De Villiers only 31 balls to get to his hundred and he also set another world record for the fastest fifty

Ham Ton Stirs Up Chevron Triumph over Sri Lanka

Image
By Perkins-Tino Bare Lasith Malinga could not save Sri Lanka as the Chevrons thumped Sri Lanka by a magnificent 7 wickets in a warm up match played today at the Bert Sutcliffe Oval, Lincoln in the second warm up match for the Chevrons as they continued with their good form which has raised the hopes of its already disappointed fans. Sri Lanka went in to bat first with Lahiru Thirmanne and Kumar Sangakkara at the crease for Sri Lanka but Kumar Sangakkara soon departed for a paltry 8 runs in the third over as the Chevrons struck early after Sean Williams caught off the bowling of Tianshe Panyagara. Mahela Jawardena then came in hoping to steady the ship and quite rightly managed to do so as they managed to reach figures of 72/2 after the departure of Lahiru Thirimane after he was run out from the efforts of Tawanda Mupariwa and Sean Williams.  Jawardena soon became the next victim of Tawanda Mupariwa who had an economy rate of 4.2 on the day. The Chevrons kept winning the crucia
