We Need A Proper Diagnosis at ZIFA

By Perkins-Tino Bare Over the past week the talk around the football world was just about one man, the incumbent, Cuthbert Dube who was supposedly suspended this past weekend before the meeting was declared null and void and then our beloved Warriors kick started their shortest stint as the Cosafa Cup that I`ve ever witnessed.  The Warriors started their campaign well with a 2-0 win over the Mauritius but they were wasteful with their chances as they a bit impatient in their build up especially in the final third whereby they had to resort to long range shots and were not effective enough to penetrate through the Mauritian defense. Generally it was a good game for the Warriors not because they won for they could have won by a greater margin but they showed stability at the back and were able to filter through the wings, they showed some form in their attacking plays. The next game for the Warriors was on Tuesday and this time they played another lowly ranked side in the Seychelles an

SRC or Zimbabwe Cricket, Who`s Really Lying?

By Perkins-Tino Bare When Paul Chingoka turned down the ICC` bailout package many people I for instance castigated him for that decision and it further emerged that the decision would result in the ICC having a firmer hold on our game. Well now we have a similar situation where the Zimbabwe Cricket took up a life-threatening tour as they find themselves in debt and therefore any penny would come in handy. With tickets for the first T20 already sold out, Zimbabwe Cricket is already in trouble over the Pakistan tour as it has emerged that the tour was not sanctioned by the Sports and Recreation Commission. The Chevrons defied governmental orders against touring Pakistan amid high concerns of security after they went on the their scheduled Pakistan as the Chevrons departed for Pakistan on Sunday. Zimbabwe Cricket`s tour of Pakistan was not sanctioned by the Sports and Recreation Committee amid high security concerns. The concerns which were already there ever since the announcement of

Warriors Win Cosafa Opener

By Perkins-Tino Bare The Warriors put the boardroom squabbles at 53 Livingstone behind them as they got their campaign to a flying start as they  beat Maritius 2-0 in ther opening encounter of the 2015 Cosafa Cup played yesterday at Moruleng Stadium in South Africa. Zimbabwe started piling on the pressure early as the Mauritian goalkeeper was an early contender for man of the match following a couple of heroic saves which kept his team in it. Zimbabwe got their opening goal from Carlos Rusere in the 28th minute putting the Warriors in the lead after he capitalised from a good cross from Hardlife Zvirekwi. Hardlife, whose name the commentators could not stop making fun of all night had a great game as he looked threatening on the right wing. The Warriors could have led by bigger margin but the Mauritian goalminder ensured that he made up for his team`s flaws. Also a bit of impatience in Zimbabwe`s build up also saw a lot of chances being wasted as they had to resort to long range shot

Zim Suspends Pakistan Tour

Image
By Perkins-Tino Bare Zimbabwe`s tour of Pakistan has been embraced by the welcome revelation after the mother body Zimbabwe Cricket finally decided on doing the right thing by cancelling the tour yesterday after taking up advice from the Sports and Recreation Committee against touring Pakistan citing security concerns . The Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) which is the regulatory body for all sports  and confirmed to the ICC is still yet to sanction the tour as . The decision which was a welcome revelation to most of the players “The decision not to tour at this time has been taken after considering the advice from the country’s supreme sports regulatory authority, the Sports and Recreation Commission, which wrote to ZC saying that it, had been advised against the tour by the Foreign Affairs ministry.”  This came as a victory for most as the tour had lost its popularity amongst fans as they mourned the prospect of the team being used merely to show prove a non-existent fact tha

Lest We Forget The Pakistan Terror

By Perkins-Tino Bare It was 6 years ago, to be more precise it was on the 3rd of March in 2009 when 12 gunmen who were hiding near Liberty Square, in the centre of Lahore, waiting for the Sri Lankan team to pass on their way to the Gaddafi stadium. When the bus crossed the road they started firing, targeting the bus. The Pakistan police escorting the Sri Lankan team returned fire; in the ensuing fighting, six policemen and two civilians died and later on they reportedly fled the scene. Now our tem is touring the very same city Lahore for 2 T20I`s and 3 ODI`s scheduled to start on the 22nd of May.   The Sri Lankan team though they were merely just fulfilling a fixture but it ended up in   six members of their national cricket team being injured. Six Pakistani policemen and two civilians were killed in a devastating attack that left most of the Sri Lankan players traumatised up to this date.  Now there is a reason why teams haven`t been touring Pakistan and that is pretty much clear on

ZC Calls Up 15 For the Lion`s Den

Image
By Perkins-Tino Bare Zimbabwe cricket has reportedly announced a 15 member squad for the hugely publicisied Pakistan tour later this month over the growing concerns over security. The players include Charles Coventry who makes a return after a long while whilst the veteran Chris Mpofu also makes his way back into the squad after his exploits in the Logan cup where he was the highest wicket taker of the 2014\15 season. The squad will also include Roy Kaia who also charged his way into the squad as a result of his local exploits as well. Zimbabwe was forced to `look local` in terms of bowling after Tendai Chatara injured his leg playing amateur football with his friends. The injury sidelined the player for up to 6 months and though the squad is still yet to be finalised there`s already a list making the rounds of the called 15 for the task. The squad will include Prosper Utseya, who now bowls a rather sluggish medium-pace after he was banned from bowling offspin. The schedule has bee

Not Yet Time For Mafu

By Perkins-Tino Bare Under-Fire Highlanders coach lived to fight another day as his side bounced back from a rather embarrassing defeat at the hands of Caps United in Matchday 7 as they saw off Flame Lily by 3-0 in a bumpy Lafarge stadium in a match played yesterday in the Matchday 8 fixtures.  Bongani Mafu went into the match knowing well that were his charges going to slip then it was eventually going to be time up for his stint at Highlanders which has not started well with alarm bells going off so early. Highlanders fought well for Mafu yet again as the Zimbabwean Under-23 striker Thomas Chideu found the target 23 minutes into the match. Gabriel Nyoni then doubled Bosso`s lead as he came on as a substitute on 54 minutes following an injury to Nqobizitha Masuku. Nine minutes from time Bosso then got a third one as they caught Flame Lily on the brink.  Speaking in an interview after the match, his assistant Mandla Mpofu was naturally pleased with the victory. “We came into this mat
