Chevrons Need to Learn the Basics of Test Cricket

Image
By Perkins-Tino Bare The Zimbabwe Cricket team was involved in two back to back Test matches against South Africa A and New Zealand over the holidays and yes you guessed it they lost both of them handing the series to New Zealand in a spectacular manner. Prior to that they had warmed themselves up with a date with our neighbours as they took on South Africa A in two unoffical tests with the visitors romping on to victory in the second 4-Day match played out in Bulawayo whilst they could only manage a draw in the first match played at Harare Sports Club going on to lose the series. How Do You Play Test Cricket Now looking from the matches that the Chevrons lost, that is against New Zealand out in Bulawayo. The Chevs still need to get the basics correct first on how to approach a test match because from the look of things the lads had no clue on how exactly to approach the game let alone be competitive on the field of play. This was evident especiall

Hamilton Masakadza was also stripped of the captain`s armband in all three formats of the game and Graeme Cremer takes over from him.  In a statement which was released by Zimbabwe Cricket, the decisions came after a board meeting which was reviewing the dismal campaign of the Chevrons at the World Cup T20 when we bowed out as the preliminary stages losing out on our place to Afghanistan. “The Zimbabwe Cricket board has made some changes following its review of the technical reports on the senior men’s performance at the 2016 ICC World Twenty20 tournament, which was hosted by India earlier this year,” reads ZC’s statement. “Head coach, Davenell Whatmore

India Name Squad For Zim Tour

Image
By Perkins-Tino Bare The Indian squad set to tour Zimbabwe was released and it the spiceboys released a relatively weakened side to face the Chevrons from the 11th of June. The squad, released yesterday includes veteran MS Dhoni and some Faiz Fazal who plies his trade out in India but they chose the same 16 men for both the T20 and the ODI format of the tour with the first match slated for the 11th of June at the Harare Sports Club. Faiz Fazal is the surprise pick on the team as he made a name for himself in the local league. The 30-year-old is an opening batsman from Vidarbha who scored a match-winning 127 for the Rest of India in the second innings of the Irani Cup against Mumbai in a match played earlier this year. Before that he had made also made 312 runs at 52.00 in a tournament which came on the heels of his 559 runs in eight trophy matches. He also scored an excellent 112-ball 100 in the Deodhar Trophy final and he seems to have made a name for himself amongst the local cric

By Perkins-Tino Bare Charles Manyuchi defied all odds again on Friday night as he pummeled Russian Dmitry Mikhaylenko once again having to do it away from home as he won the bout in Russia. Manyuchi showed again why he`s destined for success as he defeated Dmitry Mikhaylenko to become the new World Boxing Council (WBC) welterweight silver champion. The win came through a unanimous decision as the judges scored the fight 116-114, 118-110 and 115-113 all in favor of the Zimbabwean. The Russian was undefeated as before the match he stood at 21-0 but that all changed as after 12 rounds of boxing Manyuchi once again stood victorious. The win then means Manyuchi is now on possession of the belt previously held by the British fighter Amir Khan who might just put his name to try and reclaim it once again after he lost his own which measn he relinquishes the bronze category he previously held. The fight was staged in Russia on Friday and it left twitter buzzing w

Race Card Out In Minor Sports. Again

Image
By Perkins-Tino Bare After the South African Sports Minister earlier this week banned a total of four sports association from bidding or hosting any major tournaments the race card is being whipped out once again as the discussions all around are over correcting the injustices that were done to the blacks during apartheid. One thign that stuck out in the ban was that the associations were responsible as they failed to meet their own set targets and there could not therefore blame the minister nor the government for imposing a target that was not viable in the set time. But after all transformation is not that easy as this goes way back into our history as blacks in general. Zimbabwe Cricket once tried it and it failed dismally in their quest which explains the dire mode that the game finds itself in. In as much as it can be used as a case study of just how bad transformation can backfire the South African sports minister was indeed coming from a justified

Mbalula Cracks Whip on SA`s Sporting Associations

By Perkins-Tino Bare South African Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula cracked the whip on Cricket South Africa and Rugby South Africa as they were banned from hosting any major tournaments for failing to meet their own transformation targets of including both players and coaches of color in their structures. In total it is four associations that were banned as Athletics South Africa, Cricket South Africa, Netball South Africa and South African Rugby Union (SARU) were all banned from bidding for any international tournament for the same reason. "I have resolved to revoke the privilege of Athletics South Africa, Cricket South Africa, Netball South Africa and South African Rugby to host and bid for major and mega international tournaments in the Republic of South Africa as a consequence of the aforementioned federations not meeting their own set transformation targets with immediate effect," Mbalula said when he issued the statement from the Ministry. Gamecocks Lift Uhuru Cup

Image
By Perkins-Tino   Bare Chicken Inn   (1) 2   Highlanders   (1) 1 The Gamecocks won their 1 st piece of silverware as they came from behind to beat Highlanders 2-1 in a match played out at the National Sports Stadium. The match started off at a great tempo with Bosso dictating the play. Both teams were surely in search of that early goal and it was just left to the defenders to play way up the line and catch the strikers in the offside trap. It worked for both sides as they showed no respect for each other with Bosso enjoying most of the play. The first goal of the match came in the 20 th minute as Bruce Kangwa got the opener for Bosso. In the 23 rd minute he was at it again on the left flank this time around combining with Knox Mutizwa before he squared the ball beautifully in the box though it had no takers. The Gamecocks kept looking for that equaliser and it did not take them long either to level matters. Passmore Bernanrd charged on the right flank before he
