Zhuwawo, Mire to Lead Chevron`s Attack

By Perkins-Tino Bare

Zimbabwe will be looking to unleash Cephas Zhuwawo and Solomon Mire in the upcoming World Cup Qualifiers as they employ an aggressive approach with the bat. The pair are set to enforce the top-order which has of late hasn’t performed.

Speaking at a Press briefing, Graeme Cremer revealed that the two are set to be right up the top order and then Brendan Taylor will be set to enforce the experience as the two are essentially hard hitters. Sean Williams is set to have a screw removed from his finger on Thursday before the tournament and he is set to join the team at the group stages.

The team looks fairly balanced at the top as we have managed to get hard hitters with Cephas Zhuwawo and Solomon Mire. The s has been one thing that has been really letting the team down which has been an ineffective top order which then just puts too much pressure on the middle order setting it up for a classical Chevron collapse.

Cremer also added that with the conditions its also a good time to unleash Vitori in these conditions as he can make quite a meal of them. Speaking at a press conference, Cremer revealed that they’ll be looking to employ an 3 seam attack even though we have 4 seamers in the Zimbabwe Cricket team. He’s set to add Jarvis and Chatara to the line up and he’s set set to lead lead the spin attack.

The other guys like Sean Williams and islander Raza are expected to come in as part-time bowlers but their essential role is going to be to hold that middle order together with Craig Ervine. PJ Moor will also be set to reinforce that middle order and it will be set to see how it holds up as the the top order is set to go all out.

Zimbabwe get their tournament going as they take on newboys Nepal at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo. Nepal qualified after a miraculous comeback from 144/9 in 42 overs to chase down a target of 195 and beat Canada. To Nepal they have been on this `fairy-tale` journey and we`re headed the opposite direction as morale is still a bit low in the camp after that humiliation at Sharjah.

We`ll have to see what the pitch at Queens Sports Club favours on the day as Cremer has quite a few part-time bowlers to switch to if his seam attack fails to rip through Nepal. The other teams in our Afghanistan face Scotland at the Bulawayo Athletic Club in the other Group B fixture. In the other matches Papua New Guinea take on the Unite Arab Emirates at the Harare Sports Club as Ireland and Netherlands square off at the Old Hararans Sports Club.
