Castle Lager Match Day 22 Round-Up

By Perkins-Tino Bare
As the league slowly winds to an end the Gamecocks had a chance to extend their lead with a 6 pointer at stake as they played ZPC Kariba at home while Dynamos had a difficult trip to Mandava ahead of them. FC Platinum is making their late charge at the League title believable each passing day as the defending champions Dynamos painfully watch the gamecocks run away with it.

Pure Platinum Played
It was a day to remember for Norman Mapeza as his side blew away the defending champions Dynamos 3-1 in a match played at Mandava on Saturday. FC Platinum started off well in the match and they took the lead within 6 minutes courtesy of Gift Bello but the crowd was still in for a lot of action as it only took Takesure Chinyama 5 minnutes to pull one back and equalise for Dembare.
Obrey Chirwa restored FC Pllatinum`s lead afdter 3o minutes which ensured that they went to the break leading 2-1. In the second half Tonderayi Ndiraya took off Takesure Chinyama and brouught in Kawondera whilst Mapeza made a defensive move in which he brought on Simon Shoko for Dzumbunu and these two seemed to have had an impact on the game as it not only stabilised FC Platinum`s defense but they were then able to hit Dynamos for the third with Obrey Chirwa sealing his brace for the day.
The Gamecocks on the other had capitalised on the loss as they also did their part beating ZPC Kariba 2-1 in a match played on the same day at Luveve stadium in Bulawayo. This then puts the Gamecocks out in front with 46 poitn whilst FC Platinum trail by 5 points with 8 gamess left to play. Dynamos are4 in 3rd position 7 points behind the leaders whilst for Kainud it was more frustration as a disappointing draw to Whawha left his side 9 points off the leaders dampering any last hopes of the league title landing in the Lowveld.

Going Down?
At At the othe end of the log the catfight for the relegation continued as well as teams gather up last minute points to save themselves to go down into that pit of the Division 1 which next time round is going to be harder to crawl out of. Flame Lily, Whawha and Dongo Sawmill loook to be the likely candidates at the moment but they showed that are not going to go down without a fight.
It was more of a defensive approach from the teams that are fighting relegation as look to frustrate those with `real` intentions at this point in time. Whawha managed to impressively hold off Triangle in a match Kaindu would have been expected to win easily whilst Dongo Sawmill held off Chapungu at home as well. It was more of an open play game ny Flame Lily who are ready to take the rick whilst they still can for it surely could end up saving them at the end. They drew 2-2 with Hwange in their match played at Lafarge Stadium and there is therefore no much movement at the other end of the table.
Tsholotsho however capitalised on these dormant performances as they are now crawling out of the relegation zone beating How Mine 2-1 in their match. The win put them firmly on 21 points but they are still in it as the 4th team up for the chop come matchday 30.
Other matches this past weekend which had a bearing was Caps United against Buffaloes in which all attention building up to the match was on the return of Lloyd Chitembwe in his 1st match in charge as head coach after being promoted after the demotion of Mark Mathe. Buffaloes held Caps 1-1 at National Sports Stadium and though they garnered a point, they are still well within the relegation zone as they sit 2 spots above the cut off with 22 points. ZPC Kariba`s nightmarish second season continue as well as the defeat to Chicken Inn sees them just one spot above the relegation zone thanks to a superior goal difference as they both sit on 21 points with Thsolothso which is in 4th form bottom where the cut starts.
