Zimbabwe`s Presidents XI Disappoint in SA

By Perkins-Tino Bare

Zimbabwe A got their campaign off to a disapointing start in the 2015 edition of the Africa T20 Cup being played in Benoni South Africa. Zimbabwe sent a team led by Malcolm Waller, dubbed the President`s XI.

Zimbabwe`s first match was against Easterns but it was abandoned without a ball being balled on the day. The second match was played on Saturday and this was against the Northerns in which Zimbabwe lost by 6 wickets with 12 balls remaining in the match.

Malcolm Waller and Richmond stepped up as the cream in the team which lost as they both chipped in with 36 but it was still not enough to carry the boys through. Waller hit 2 fours and 2 sixes in his innings and had a strike rate of 128.57 whilst wicket-keeper/ batsman Mutumbami had 1 four and a staggering 3 sixes.

As for the rest they could not even handle it as they were being bowled out for pathetic figures. First in tio bat for Zimbabwe was PJ Moor who last got as run for the Chevrons in the Banglawash and he waws bowled out for 5 from 8 balls. Next in was Kasuza and Sauramba who were both bowled out for ducks giving the Northerns a strong hold in the match.
Rory Kaia waqs stumped for 6 in a rather wasteful innings whilst the trio of Luke Jongwe, Neville Madziva, and Wellington Masakadza all chipped with a combined figure of 16 wrapping up the innings. Chris Mutombodzi showed some resisitance in the match as he was able to hold his wicket being the last man standing but with just 13 runs and a four to show for it. Zimbabwe set a target of 117 /8 in their alloted 20 overs.

Pick of the bowlers was Wellington Masakadza who had 3 wickets conceding just 12 runs from 3 overs which saw him ending the day with an economy of 4.00. Neville Madziva on the other hand played a disappoinitng innins in which he had an economy of 6.00 in his 3 overs with only one wicket. This is a guy who platys regular cricket for the Chevrons and willl be sticking his head out for selection in a couple of weeks when we take on Paakistan yet he`s showing such a poor form. MASlcolom Waller did not receive a glorious return to bowling as he also conceded 15 runs from 2 overs with no wicket to welcome him back after that ban which lasted close to a year. The biggest culprit in terms of biowling was Chris Mutombodzi who only bowled an over conceding 19 runs and in the process bolwing one no ball and 2 wides.

Zimbabwe is in pool A with Northerns,Easterns and Western Province. The two matches see Zimbabwe`s President XI lying 3rd in the pool with 6 points whilst Northerns are leaders with 10 points.
Easterns are 2nd also with 6 pts like Zimbabwe`s President`s XI but they have a superior net run rate of +0.025 whilst we trail with one of -0.034.

Next up is a tie against Western Province which they must win to [progress to the semi finaqls
