Chevrons Down But Not All Out

Zimbabwe Cricket lost to West Indies by 4 wickets in nail-biting match played at the Harare Sports Club in a match which Taylor had a brilliant knock of 138 which included a whooping 20 fours and 2 sixes.

Zimbabwe won the toss and elected to bat first but it was not a good start for the Chevrons as they lost Zhuwawo in the second over for a duck and soon the Chevrons were on 48-3. Solomon Mire chipped in with a healthy 45 but then it was up to the former captain Brendan Taylor to step up to the plate starting off with a partnership of 49 with Craig Ervine then 76 with Sean Williams to go on to the final knock of 79 with Sikandar Raza. 

"Total control, very calm. He put the bad ball away and he put the good ball away for ones and twos. Zimbabwe had great fight, as we expected. We had to play well to beat them." Said Law the west Indies coach on Taylor`s in a post match interview. It was a brilliant knock in all cases as he once again showed his strength with the bat.

This set up the Chevrons for a healthy score of 289 all out which seemed a good score to defend but then the Windies alos got off to a shaky strat as they lost the wicket of the big man Chris Gayle early on in their innings for 17.  In the end proved a bit too strong for them as they were calm chugging on to a strong score of 245-3 with 7 overs still to be bowled.

The match was then set for an interesting ending as they lost 3 quick wickets by the 45th over going on 265-6 as the Chevrons were hoping to bowl the Windies out and end the match in a spectacular fashion. The skipper Graeme Cremer chipped in with two wickets together with Blessing muzarabani bbut the Windies still had a few balls and the wickets 4 in hand to close out the match and had the Chevrons their first defeat of the campaign.

"We grafted hard and we felt we had a good total, but I don't think we were sharp enough in the field today," Taylor said a disappointed Taylor in a post-match interview as his efforts were in vain. "The bowlers fought hard against a batting attack that thrives on boundaries and big hits, but we just leaked too many runs and that's been our downfall today."We leaked 20 or 30 runs in the field, and that's what hurt us," said Taylor in a post match interview.
The Chevrons are currently second on the table in super six stage as they are on 5 points together with Scotland which is third on the table. Afghanistan play the UAE on Tuesday as Scotland will square off with West Indies on Wednesday in a match which will decide the first team to qualify for the tournament . It`s not all over for the Chevrons as a win against the UAE on Thursday will make them the second team to qualify the World Cup in England.
