All Things Fall Apart For Zimbabwe Cricket

By Perkins Bare

The storm at Zimbabwe Zimbabwe Cricket seems to be slowly reaching its peak after the resignation of the Managing Director Faisal Hasnain putting pressure on the rest of the ZC board to follow suite. with captains jumping out of this inking ship it seemed to be yet another bad day for Zimbabwe Cricket as this was then followed by the cancellation of the second year of the Rising Stars programme, which is essentially a 5-year programme and was forming the backbone of Zimbabwe Cricket`s player development.

“Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) wishes to announce that Faisal Hasnain has officially resigned from his position as managing director, with immediate effect,” read the statement released by Zimbabwe Cricket. The saddest part of the day was definitely the boycott being planned by the players in the upcoming T20 series against Australia and Pakistan. With the players still to be paid their March and April salaries the players are owed close to $40,000 in match fees on top of their monthly wages, and are threatening to sit out the games against Australia and Pakistan in July if  Zimbabwe Cricket do not settle their dues."That series is in serious trouble," a senior player told Cricbuzz.

"If they can't pay even our basic salaries on time then how are they going to catch up our match fees from the past year, and also guarantee that they will pay match fees for July's games on time?
“Hasnain has been in the position for the past one year, during which time ZC has progressed on a number of fronts.”"One of the main objectives that I had set myself was for ZC to qualify for the CWC 2019, and last year I had advised my management team that I would step down if ZC did not qualify," Hasnain said in a statement.

It is however believed that the ICC`s refusal to bailout ZC yet again was the major reason behind him stepping down as ZC have always had a cash problem yet they were being taken care of by the ICC which has refused to bail them out this time and it poses the question where has the money been going to if the players are threatening to go on strike.

Now ZC has lost the support of the mother board at a time when they got so used to being spoon fed and now the players are threatening to go on strike.   "Following the non-qualification of ZC, I was requested by ZC to complete the two major projects that I was working on, namely to ensure that the proposed winter matches with Australia and Pakistan go ahead, and to deal with the ongoing financial issues with the ICC.

Both matters have now been effectively concluded from my side." Hainin said in a statement.
The non-qualification of the Chevrons seems to be the main cause as it`s the first time that the Chevrons will miss out on the World Cup since its inception in 1975. when Streak was appointed coach ZC decided to focus on the shorter formats of the game as they did not play well in Tests. But after missing out on the ODI World Cup now the Chevrons need to finish in the top nine o get an automatic spot into the T20 World Cup or they off to the qualifiers to see all thing fall apart for them.
