Matchday 2 got underway on Friday with the
Sunshine Boys Harare City getting one for the mayor as they thrashed
a hapless Mutare City by 4-1 bringing the boys from Manicaland`s
tally to 7 goals they have already conceded this season. Highlanders
were stunned by FC Platinum whilst Dynamos remain winless after they
were held to a 1-1 draw by Triangle. Kelvin Kaindu`s men got it right
this time as they held on to their 2-0 lead this time to brush off
ZPC Kariba. Chicken Inn and FC Platinum are on top of the stanings as
they both have 6 points having registered wins in their fisrt two
encounters. Caps United and Ngezi Platinum then follow on 4 points as
Mutare City, Hwange and Border Strikers sit shaker yet to record a
point with Mutare City having already conceded 7 goals.
Wait For It...
Dynamos remain winless as they were held to a
1-1 draw by Triangle in a match played out at Rufaro Stadium. The
draw comes in timely for Dembare as they were rather humbled last
week by the defending champions the Gamecocks who ran roughshod
scoring three goals past them. The first half didn`t see many chances
being created and there was a scare moment when Obey Mwerahari almost
scored one for the visitors. The second half also saw more of the
same. Dominique Mukandi and Roderick Mutuma failed to convert their
chances minutes before the referee blew for a goalless draw.
The draw should have had a stabilising effect
for Dynamos who had a reality check last week out in Bulawayo.
Especially with the atmosphere getting tense with the man Paulo Jorge
Silva on a written final notice. Reports emerged hours before the
match that he was going to resign and the Dynamos chairman Kenny
Mubaiwa couldn`t care less “If he wants to resign, no problem with
us. We will accept the letter and he can leave,” he said. “He is
on a final written warning anyway.” he had said in an interview
with a local daily. The draw should therefore work for Silva`s good
because it seems Dynamos didn`t get what they wanted when they were
looking for a coach and now Silva has to prove that he`s up for the
task. If he`s able to get his combinations right especially after the
draw then maybe a win or two will silence the critics.
Bosso's Young Stars Fall to Platinum
Highlanders fielded youngsters Prince Dube,
Adrian Silla, Danmore Chakwana and Benson Phiri as they took on FC
Platinum in a match played out at Barbourfields stadium in what was
the top of the fixtures on matchday 2. Walter Musona and Obrey Chirwa
scored two goals for the visitors FC Platinum whilst Knox Mutizwa
combined with Rahman Kutsanzira to grab Bosso`s consolation in a
match they lost 2-1.
Bosso`s coach Elroy Akbay bemoaned his boys`
maturity as he labelled the goals as stupid “ We conceded two
stupid goals but i am happy with the performance of my boys. I
however feel we wasted too many chances and you can`t win a match if
you do that its what really makes me sad” said Akbay in a
post-match interview with a loacl daily. “ The goals came because
we did not defend as a team but the fans should not worry much there
is nothing wrong with the team.. I also want to salute the fans, even
when we were 2-0 down they kept urging us on. I hope that spirit
continues throughout the season” Akbay later on added in that
interview.
The loss shouldn`t be worrying much for Bosso
but they then need the likes of Bruce Kangwa and Ralph Matema to step
up and lead the youngsters. Highlanders have a relatively young squad
and one thing that`s good about it is that young lads lack respect
and they can just give you a smacking no matter who you are like what
happened with Hwange last week but then the downside of it all is
that they`re vulnerable to stupid mistakes which could cost the team
dearly like what went on to happen this week at home against FC
Platinum.
Caps Blow lead to Draw
Caps United blew a 1-0 lead as they went on to
draw 1-1 with Ngezi Platinum at the new Baobab Stadium. Makepekepe`s
Steven Makatuka was the one to blame as he not only failed to defend
a corner but converted it into hos own net. Simba Nhivi, who had come
on as a substitute in the second half had given Makepekepe the lead
in the 78th minute which was late enough to smash and grab all three
points before Makatuka`s blunder costed them.
Caps United`s assistant coach Mark Mathe, was
left to do the post match interview as Lloyd Cchitembwe stormed out
of the stadium in disappointment. “ It was a game of two halves and
we had our chances in the first half but we made poor decisions”,
he said in the interview, “We then made some changes in the second
half and we got a goal. We would have loved to get all three points
but it couldn`t be. IN modern football if you don`t make use of your
chances you get punished but overall we`re happy with the point
gained on the road” said Mathe in a post-match interview with a
local daily.
In all honesty Caps United should have got all
three points especially looking at the squad that they have. Tafadzwa
Rusike and Joel Ngodzo combined well on the left flank with their
striker Dominic Chungwa missing a host of good opportunities in the
first. Ngezi Platinum had one Terrence Dzvujkamanja to speak of who
missed a golden opportunity but as a team they have started well
having beaten Mutare City 3-0 in their last encounter.
